This bag is currently on display in the Winter Threads Exhibition at the Weigh Ahead Gallery, Dunblane. It is available to purchase directly from the gallery until 10th January 2026 and is not available to buy online at this time.
Meet Santa Maria – a striking hand-crocheted bag crafted from recycled banana yarn, blended with natural raffia to create a one-of-a-kind fluffy, bobbled texture. Soft cream tones are splashed with vibrant rainbow colours for a lively yet sophisticated look. Using banana yarn was a new venture for me and while tough to work with, it gives a fantastic texture, feel and appearance.
This rectangular bag closes with a secure top zip and raffia detail.
It’s beautifully tactile – looking soft and fluffy but with a delightfully bobbled firm feel to touch. Inside, a luxurious embroidered oriental satin lining holds a small zipped pocket for cards or keys.
Santa Maria can be styled as a chic clutch or worn on the shoulder or cross-body. The smart gold chain strap gives a sophisticated look for day or evening. If you want a leather strap as an alternative, I can provide that either in addition to the gold strap or to replace to gold chain strap.
A little larger than most evening bags, it comfortably fits a small umbrella along with your essentials.
A joyful, sustainable statement piece that’s perfect for adding colour and texture to any outfit.
